The Philadelphia Eagles officially signed undrafted rookie free agent cornerback Jameson Houston to their practice squad on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles first brought Houston in for a tryout around this time last week. Here’s what we wrote at the time:
Houston originally signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft. He then spent some time with the Carolina Panthers before being waived in early September. Houston’s been available ever since.
The Eagles already have one former Baylor Bears defensive back on their practice squad in Grayland Arnold. They could look at add Houston as a second.
Houston logged 86 total tackles (nice), 16 passes defensed, one interception, and one forced fumble in four years of his college football career. He can also lay the wood, apparently.
The Eagles could be looking to add Houston as an extra practice body and a developmental player.
After placing Cre’Von LeBlanc on injured reserve, the Eagles currently have just four cornerbacks on the 53-man roster: Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, Nickell Robey-Coleman, and Michael Jacquet. Adding Jameson to the practice squad gives the team an extra body at that position.
