The Cleveland Browns officially announced they’re placing star edge rusher Myles Garrett on the reserve/COVID-19 list after he tested positive for the coronavirus. Garrett will now miss Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Garrett’s absence is obviously unfortunate and we’re all hoping he recovers soon. From a football perspective, though, this is a big break for the Eagles. Garrett is arguably the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year this season. The No. 1 overall pick from the 2017 NFL Draft leads the league in sacks (9.5) and forced fumbles (4). Garrett going up against a soon-to-be 39-year-old Jason Peters was looking like a concerning matchup heading into this week’s game.
The Eagles aren’t a very good team so it’s still entirely possible they’ll lose to the Browns on Sunday. But they at least have a better chance of pulling off the upset with Garrett not playing.
This week’s game is still currently scheduled to be played despite the fact that both teams have placed players on the reserve/COVID-19 list due to positive tests.
