The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced the following transactions on Thursday evening:
- J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Vinny Curry, and Corey Clement placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
- Deontay Burnett placed on the practice squad COVID-19 list.
These moves (temporarily) open up three roster spots and one practice squad spot.
Let’s dig in more on each player.
J.J. ARCEGA-WHITESIDE
JJAW reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus and will thus miss this week’s game. He would’ve likely been a healthy scratch even if he was available. Still, let’s hope that JJAW recovers as soon as possible.
VINNY CURRY
Curry hasn’t tested positive but he was deemed to be in close contact with an infected person. It’s not perfectly clear if he’ll be able to play on Sunday. If he’s not, the Eagles are left with three defensive ends on the roster: Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, and Josh Sweat. The team could look to elevate Joe Ostman from the practice squad in that case.
COREY CLEMENT
Clement is in the same boat as Curry. If he’s not cleared to play in Sunday’s game, look for Jason Huntley to be active as the third running back behind Miles Sanders and Boston Scott.
DEONTAY BURNETT
The Eagles don’t have time to bring in a new player to the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s game.
JOHN HIGHTOWER
It was previously reported that Hightower was expected to go on reserve/COVID-19 but the Eagles didn’t do that here. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that Hightower “was not deemed high risk” despite the fact he missed Thursday’s practice with an illness. Hightower might be able to play on Sunday.
