The Philadelphia Eagles officially sent DeSean Jackson and Hassan Ridgeway to injured reserve on Monday afternoon. This news was expected with both players getting hurt during the Eagles’ Week 7 win over the New York Giants.

DESEAN JACKSON

Jackson is reportedly out for six-to-eight weeks due to a non-displaced fracture in his ankle. If that timeline holds true, Jackson won’t be back until around Week 14 at the earliest. Even if Jackson does make it back, it’s hard to count on the soon-to-be 34-year-old staying healthy. He’s only been available for about 12% of the Eagles’ offensive snaps since returning to Philly.

With Jackson out, the Eagles are down to the following wide receivers on the 53-man roster: Travis Fulgham, Greg Ward, John Hightower, Alshon Jeffery, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, and Quez Watkins. The team also activated Jalen Reagor’s practice window, which indicates he’ll be returning to the 53-man roster in the near future. Reagor figures to be a natural replacement at Jackson’s Z role when he’s ready to play. In the meantime, Hightower is primed for more playing time in that role.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles handle this position. Jeffery is reportedly ready to return this week but the team has also been trying to trade him for over a year now. They can’t possibly take Fulgham off the field to make playing time for Jeffery at the X position. What happens with JJAW and Watkins, who aren’t playing much?

HASSAN RIDGEWAY

2020 marks the second year in a row where Ridgeway suffered a season-ending injury in his seventh game played. Ridgeway injured his bicep against the Giants.

The Eagles are down to just two healthy defensive tackles on the 53-man roster: Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave. Malik Jackson is expected to miss at least one more game before potentially returning after the bye.

The guess here is the Eagles will look to sign practice squad veteran T.Y. McGill to the 53. The team can also elevate practice squad rookie Raequan Williams to the 55-man roster for game day if they want more depth on the interior.

Ridgeway will be a free agent once again after this year.

FILLING THE TWO OPEN ROSTER SPOTS

McGill seems like a good bet to fill one of the two. The other one could go to Reagor if he’s ready this week. If not, the Eagles could use it to activate T.J. Edwards. Another one or two will have to be opened if Rudy Ford and/or Jason Peters are ready to play.
