The Eagles Should Trade For Julio Jones

So once again the wide receiver core is injured, and players that hard core NFL fans had never heard of are catching balls. Every year the wide receiver core struggles for the Eagles. I don’t even know what to say about this team this year. On paper, and in my mind they’re still a contender. Somehow they are still in contention for the playoffs while being 1-4-1. Thank you NFC East for being a dumpster fire this year.

The Eagles have struggled in other areas other than the wide receivers. The offensive line that in the past has been dominate, and is currently ravaged with injuries, and bench players are underperforming this year. Wentz’s year has been a rollercoaster ride on crack. One second he’s making the worst possible decisions and instead of throwing the ball away he is trying to extend plays, and ends up getting sacked or throwing an interception. Then the next second he’s hitting players in tight windows, and having defenders bounce off of him. This year Wentz has had to run for his life as he leads the NFL in getting sacked with 25, and this is before tonights game against the Giants. Could it be the lack of weapons or the constant pressure that Wentz has to deal with that has led to a lackluster year?

Hopefully in a couple of weeks the offensive line can get healthy, and I have an idea to greatly improve our wide receiver core. The savior for the Eagles wide receiver group is a man named Julio fucking Jones. Now the reasoning for this trade is very simple the Eagles need a star receiver. Sure I love Travis Fulgham as much as other Eagles fans, but he’s no Julio Jones. The Falcons are currently on fire, as they have fired Dan Quinn, and there was a report that they might be willing to trade Matt Ryan, and Julio Jones.

The Falcons are in a rebuild mode, and I think the Eagles should trade draft picks, and Alshon Jeffery’s contract for Julio Jones. A couple of years ago Odell Beckham JR was traded to the browns for a first round pick, a third round pick, and safety Jabrill Peppers. Now I think that Julio Jones is a better wide receiver that OBJ, but OBJ was 25 at the time of the trade and Julio is 31. So I could see a trade that is similar to the OBJ trade happening for the Eagles. Howie Roseman’s history of selecting players in the first round has been shaky. Since 2010 the Eagles have had multiple busts in the first round. In 2011 the Eagles selected Danny Watkins who only played one year, and was cut. In 2014 Marcus Smith was selected, Smith only played 2 years and was cut. In 2015 Nelson Agholor was selected, and all Eagles fans have a similar feeling for Agholor.

Last year the Eagles selected Andre Dillard, now it might be to early to call him a bust, but he hasn’t looked good. At the beginning of the year Dillard struggled, and then was put on the IR where he will miss the entire season. His future doesn’t look to promising.

Will trading for Julio Jones magically make the Eagles significantly better? I don’t know, but something needs to change. Every year it can’t be the same excuses that they are filled with injuries, they need to change something.
