Suggestions when trying to beat the odds.

Before the sixth Sunday of the 2020 NFL regular season kicks off, let’s have some fun by taking a look at the spreads for the Week 6 games. You can CLICK HERE for straight up NFL picks without regard to the spread. You can find all of the NFL betting lines via DraftKings.

My overall record so far is 41-35-1 after going 9-5 last week. The BGN community is one game behind at 40-36-1.

Here are suggestions when trying to beat the odds.

NFL WEEK 6 GAMES

BALTIMORE RAVENS (-9.5) at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: Call me crazy but I think the Eagles can at least keep this one close. The Ravens’ offense, which ranks 17th in DVOA, isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders right now. Lamar Jackson is averaging an 84.3 passer rating through his last three starts. Philly’s defense will keep them in this game. It’s just a matter of the Eagles’ offense avoiding turnovers and doing just enough. I like the points here. PICK: Eagles +9.5

CLEVELAND BROWNS at PITTSBURGH STEELERS (-3.5): At first glance, it could be tempting to take the Browns with the points. They look good and could legitimately win this game outright. But Pittsburgh’s stout run defense (No. 1 by DVOA) is equipped to shut down Cleveland’s biggest strength and put the onus on Baker Mayfield to win with his arm. In that case, I like the Steelers to reach 5-0. PICK: Steelers -3.5

DENVER BRONCOS at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (-7.5): Both sides are missing some key players in this one. I can’t possibly take Brett Rypien, who was turnover prone in his first start, over Cam Newton in this matchup. PICK: Patriots -7.5

CHICAGO BEARS at CAROLINA PANTHERS (-1): When will people learn to stop doubting Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles? He Just Wins™. PICK: Bears +1

HOUSTON TEXANS at TENNESSEE TITANS (-4): The Titans are legit. I do wonder if we’ll see the effects of them playing on short rest after winning on Tuesday. Even so, I trust their side more than Houston. Derrick Henry should have success against the Texan’s 26th ranked run defense. PICK: Titans -4

ATLANTA FALCONS at MINNESOTA VIKINGS (-4): The Falcons could experience a “play better with the head coach fired” bump this week ... but Kirk Cousins is his best when it come to beating bad teams. Minnesota is better than their record reflects; the Vikings are 11th (!) in DVOA. PICK: Vikings -4

CINCINNATI BENGALS at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (-7.5): Tough line here because Philip Rivers might be cooked. But the Bengals’ offensive line is just so bad and Cincy could struggle to score against the No. 1 overall DVOA defense. I feel better putting faith in Frank Reich than Zac Taylor. PICK: Colts -7.5

DETROIT LIONS (-3) at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: Even a decent number of Lions fans think they can’t beat the Jags. Jacksonville hasn’t won since Week 1 but they’re due for another here. Maybe this loss will finally get Matt Patricia fired? PICK: Jaguars +3

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM at NEW YORK GIANTS (-2.5): The Football Team’s defensive line could very well dominate the Giants’ porous offensive line. But I look at how Daniel Jones hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass since Week 1 (lol) and think there’s some positive regression coming there. The Giants came close to notching their first win last week and I think this is the game they get it done. PICK: Giants -2.5

NEW YORK JETS at MIAMI DOLPHINS (-9.5): Ryan Fitzpatrick’s potential to go from red hot to ice cold must always be considered. But, I mean, the Jets are awful. PICK: Dolphins -9.5

GREEN BAY PACKERS (-1) at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: This line is showing too much respect to the Bucs. Love the Packers in a pick ‘em with the way that Aaron Rodgers is playing. PICK: Packers -1

LOS ANGELES RAMS (-3) at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: Fishy line here. Why aren’t the Rams favored by more? The 49ers lost to Philly in Week 4 and got blown out by Miami in Week 5. The Rams aren’t that far off from being undefeated. Not going to overthink this one. PICK: Rams -3

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-4.5) at BUFFALO BILLS: These previously undefeated teams are coming off their first losses of the season. Do we really think KC is going to drop two games in a row? I don’t think so. Especially with them having a rest advantage in this one. The Chiefs will be able to score on ... well, anyone, but especially Buffalo’s 27th ranked defense. PICK: Chiefs -4.5

ARIZONA CARDINALS (-1) at DALLAS COWBOYS: The Cowboys will still be able to have some offensive success with Andy Dalton starting but it obviously won’t be on the same level as Dak Prescott starting. Kyler Murray and this Cardinals offense will take advantage of this gettable Dallas defense. PICK: Cardinals -1
