The 2020 Philadelphia Eagles has understandably inspired a lot of negativity thus far. But what are some positives that we can focus on?

That’s what Jimmy Kempski and I attempted to discuss in this week’s BGN Radio podcast episode. Don’t worry, we still found plenty of negatives to talk about with the team dropping to 1-3-1. On the bright side, though ...

  • There’s reason to believe Travis Fulgham is legit. What he’s done with the Eagles so far has obviously been impressive. Beyond that, he looked good in camp this year, he flashed with the Detroit Lions during the 2019 preseason (7 receptions for 140 yards), and he demonstrated big play ability in college (second most receptions of 20+ yards in the 2019 draft class).
  • Carson Wentz is trending the right way after a terrible start. His performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers was encouraging. Wentz was actually Pro Football Focus’s third highest graded quarterback from Week 5. There’s hope for the Eagles’ offense with Wentz playing well.
  • The team’s young offensive linemen are getting experience and are at least holding their own. Jordan Mailata just might be a long-term answer at left tackle. Nate Herbig looks like a quality interior backup offensive lineman to have in the future.

THE NEGATIVES

  • The defense was pretty bad in Week 5. But, no, Jim Schwartz should not be fired.
  • Discussing Schwartz’s role in player personnel. Fair to criticize the lack of player development?
  • The linebackers just aren’t meeting the threshold.
  • Waiving Casey Toohill just to potentially bring back Vinny Curry raises concerns about the team’s priorities.
