The Philadelphia Eagles face quite the dilemma entering the 2020 off-season.
On one hand, there’s a staff and roster that fought through all types of adversity to emerge NFC East Champions. They had a team strong enough, despite all the subtractions via injury, to punch their ticket to the playoffs and hang in with the Seattle Seahawks for four quarters in a one-score loss.
On the other hand, the expectations for what this season would be were much higher. The Eagles never looked like a legitimate Super Bowl contender and had to beat long odds over the last month of the regular season to go to the dance.
The question becomes whether to run it back or remodel. Many groaned when Doug Pederson praised the work of offensive coordinator Mike Groh and wide receivers coach Carson Walch. This had a “run it back” feel to it, especially with the under-performance of the wide receiver group. Then again, there’s also this, which could be nothing but could be something...
I’ve heard that Philadelphia Eagles’ are likely to have a shakeup on their coaching staff today.

Perhaps this is a sign of what everybody wants with a possible replacement for Walch on the way? The Dallas Cowboys let go of wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal, who the Eagles have interviewed previously. Maybe Jim Schwartz is really headed to the Cleveland Browns?! Who knows!
Conversely, Howie Roseman’s comments about getting younger, shifting draft philosophies, reexamining their medical approach, and so on had the “remodel” feel I think most Eagles’ fans would welcome.
So which is the strategy in the coming months? Only time will tell, as actions speak much louder than words. For now, we’re left to hang on every word and squeeze as much as we can out of each sentence.
We try to do that on The Kist & Solak Show #169! Some of the topics from the show include:
- Why it makes sense that Genard Avery’s trade was more “time-release capsule” than “win now” move...
- A debate about Alshon Jeffery’s future with his contract, injury history, and... well... you know...
- The Eagles will likely pick up Derek Barnett’s fifth-year option, and they should, but there’s a deeper discussion about how the Eagles should treat a premium position...
- JJ Arcega-Whiteside... Roseman or Douglas pick?
- Schwartz, Groh, and Walch back?
- What could a front office shuffling look like?
- AND MIUCH MORE!
