A new name has emerged in the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator search.
The Eagles are interested in Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach James Urban, according to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
BGN wrote about Urban as an Eagles OC target last week:
Urban began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles and remained on Andy Reid’s staff from 2004 through 2010. He was actually replaced by Doug Pederson as the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach in 2011.
Urban coached the Cincinnati Bengals’ wide receivers from 2011 through 2017 before then becoming the Ravens’ quarterbacks coach in 2018.
When you look at the success that Lamar Jackson has had, it seems like it’s at least worth interviewing Urban.
The Ravens had one of the most fun and unique offenses to watch in 2019. A large part of that is because Jackson is a special talent. But the Ravens’ coaching staff also deserves credit for scheming to his strengths.
The Eagles will need permission from the Ravens in order to interview Urban. It’s possible Baltimore wants to block him from leaving after his role in Jackson having an MVP caliber season. Urban has never previously served as a coordinator so one would think the 46-year-old assistant is hungry for the opportunity.
Urban seems like a worthy candidate to me.
