The Senior Bowl is right around the corner which means 2020 NFL Draft chatter is about to kick up a notch. Bleeding Green Nation will be well represented and covering it live throughout the process as practices kick off early next week, starting with weigh-ins on Tuesday, January 21st and ending with the game on Saturday, January 25th.
To help get you prepared for the quarterback group that will be in Mobile, Alabama, The QB Scho Show #49 took a look at the current crop of signal-callers slated to appear. The Philadelphia Eagles went against our advice last year by selecting Clayton Thorson over others we liked, including Gardner Minshew, but with possible departures in the quarterback room they may be looking to take another Day 3 swing in the draft.
One player they won’t have a shot at is LSU’s Joe Burrow, who still has a decision to make regarding his participation in the event. The Cincinnati Bengals’ staff will be there coaching the South team and would love to get a first-hand look at Burrow, but the feeling is that he’ll opt to skip this part of the process and heal up after a long season of throwing a record-setting 60 touchdowns.
The event will also likely feature hushed conversations in private corners by “insiders” that will ultimately start pondering a potential costly trade up for Burrow by the Carolina Panthers, who landed the LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady as their new offensive coordinator (much to my chagrin).
If Burrow declines, that means Oregon’s Justin Herbert will be the top name in attendance.
Utah State Jordan Love also has a chance to improve his draft stock after the hype on him cooled during the 2019 college season. Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts has a chance to show off his chops after reviving his stock with a productive year and has already drawn some Lamar Jackson comparisons that are a little rich for my taste. Washington State’s Anthony Gordon obviously grew up idolizing gunslingers, but out-dueling this group may be a task too tall.
Who should the Eagles be eyeing in this group? That’s a question that hopefully gets answered on the field next week. We talk about what teams are looking for from these prospects during the Senior Bowl process, plus we have a chat about the quarterback match-ups in the Championship Games this weekend, that’s all on The QB Scho Show #49!
