Former Washington offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell had been rumored as an Eagles OC target but it turns out he won’t be coming to Philly. O’Connell is being hired as the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive coordinator instead, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.

The other candidate originally mentioned along with O’Connell was Jim Caldwell. Caldwell was hired to be the Miami Dolphins’ assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach before having to take a leave of absence in July due to health issues. Caldwell instead served as a consultant for the team in 2019.

Caldwell’s current status is unclear, but, assuming he’s healthy, he makes a lot of sense for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator vacancy. Caldwell has a strong track record of getting the most out of quarterbacks wherever he goes. The thought of pairing him with Carson Wentz is intriguing.

The Eagles could be considering more candidates than just Caldwell. Here’s a long list of some other options that are still on the board.
