The Philadelphia Eagles made it through their Week 1 game against the Washington Redskins relatively unscathed. The exception, of course, is that starting defensive tackle Malik Jackson got carted off late in the game.
The full extent of Jackson’s injury is currently unknown. We should find out more as the week progresses. Jackson’s scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday.
For now, all we know is that Jackson was seen wearing a walking boot after the game. Jackson had the following to say about his status:
“Just a little injury. Football. We’ll see what the doctors say.”
Hm.
This doesn’t sound like a total non-issue.
If Jackson has to miss some time, it’s hardly like the team will be devoid of defensive tackle talent in his absence. Fletcher Cox is obviously a beast and 2017 starter Timmy Jernigan built on his strong preseason by notching the Eagles’ only sack in Week 1. Hassan Ridgeway has also shown some positive flashes and Bruce Hector is still around on the practice squad.
With all that said, the Eagles signed Jackson to a three-year, $30 million contract this offseason for a reason. They’re counting on him to be a key contributor to their defensive line.
And so the Eagles will hope Jackson won’t have to miss much time, if any at all.
