The Philadelphia Eagles signed free agent cornerback D.J. White to their practice squad, according to an official announcement from the team. The Eagles had a vacancy after making some transactions over the past couple weeks.
White, 26, was originally selected by the Kansas City Chief with a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played in 11 games with KC as a rookie and logged 11 tackles, three passes, and one interception. The Chiefs waived him in November 17.
White was claimed by the Colts and played in two games with Indianapolis before ultimately getting cut in September 2018. He remained on the market until spending a month with Washington back in August 2019.
The Eagles have a need for cornerback bodies given that Ronald Darby, Sidney Jones, and Avonte Maddox are all dealing with injuries. Rasul Douglas and Craig James were the only two healthy corners to finish Philadelphia’s Week 4 game against the Packers.
By re-signing Orlando Scandrick and adding White to the practice squad, the Eagles will now have at least five corners for practice: Douglas, Scandrick, James, White, and Ajene Harris. It remains to be seen if any of the Eagles’ injured corners will be able to practice this week.
