Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Malik Jackson suffered a Lisfranc injury and will miss the rest of the 2019 NFL season, according to a report from NFL insiders Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.

This news was expected following Doug Pederson’s press conference on Monday. Pederson told reporters Jackson’s injury was “significant” and he couldn’t say if Jackson was going to be able to return in 2019.

Losing Jackson is a big blow for the Eagles, as we previously wrote:

The Eagles had big hopes for Jackson in 2019; there was a reason they signed him to three-year, $30 million contract in the offseason. Jackson was already showing some promising signs in Week 1. [...] The Eagles were counting on him to be a big part of their pass rush. His presence made it so that the team didn’t have to line up their edge rushers on the defensive interior.

The Eagles will likely put Jackson on injured reserve as soon as today. Doing so will allow them to free up a roster spot.

Fletcher Cox, Timmy Jernigan, and Hassan Ridgeway are currently the Eagles’ only three healthy defensive tackles. The pressure is on Jernigan and Ridgeway to step up. It’s possible the team calls up Bruce Hector from the practice squad to the 53-man roster to provide more depth in the absence of Jackson.
