The Philadelphia Eagles waived cornerback Alex Brown in order to sign free agent linebacker Asantay Brown, according to an official announcement from the team.
That’s kinda funny. The Eagles signed A. Brown and cut A. Brown.
The Eagles made this move because they had some linebacker reps to fill with Kamu Grugier-Hill going down with an MCL injury. Paul Worrilow has also missed a number of practices and has been described as “week-to-week” with a knee issue.
The Eagles originally signed Brown as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. He was injured for most of training camp last year but he did spend time on Philadelphia’s practice squad during the regular season. The Eagles signed Brown to a future contract earlier this year prior to waiving him to make room for 2019 undrafted rookie free agent signings.
Brown’s experience in the Eagles’ scheme makes him valuable as a camp body to eat up practice/preseason reps.
The Eagles originally claimed Alex Brown on waivers back on July 26. He was acquired to help the team fill some corner reps but the Orlando Scandrick signing made him more expendable.
