So here’s a cut down day surprise: the Buffalo Bills are releasing six-time Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The Bills are clearing $6.425 million in cap space (with $2.625 million in dead money) by cutting McCoy.
The 31-year-old McCoy is coming off the least productive season of his career. He only rushed for 514 total yards (paltry 3.2 average) and three touchdowns in 2018. More context on his struggles:
Reminder that LeSean McCoy was brutal last year, and he is now 31 years old.

* Career-low 3.2 yards per carry
* Career-low 3.9 yards per touch
* 55th among 56 RBs in yards after contact per rush (2.01)
* 48th among 56 RBs in @PFF Elusive Rating
McCoy’s been with Buffalo ever since Chip Kelly played a big part in trading the Eagles’ all-time leading rusher during the 2015 offseason. Now that he’s on the free agent market, will Philadelphia have interest in bringing Shady back to Philly?
There’s some evidence that suggests the Eagles COULD look into signing McCoy. Howie Roseman reportedly tried to trade for McCoy during the 2017 offseason. The Eagles also reportedly reached out to the Bills about McCoy’s availability again during the 2018 regular season.
But the Eagles might just pass on bringing McCoy back to Philly. He’s clearly been on the decline and the team seems to like what they already have in the fold with Miles Sanders, Jordan Howard, Darren Sproles, and Corey Clement.
It’ll be interesting to see where Shady lands next. Do the Cowboys try to go after him?! Maybe a reunion with Andy Reid on the Chiefs?
