Report: Jadeveon Clowney prefers to be traded to Eagles or Seahawks

Well, then.

Hey, look, an actual credible source that links Jadeveon Clowney to the Philadelphia Eagles!

The Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson is reporting that the Eagles — along with the Seattle Seahawks — are one of Clowney’s preferred potential destinations in a trade scenario.

Of course, there’s still been no indication that the interest is mutual and the Eagles actually want to trade for Clowney. I previously wrote about as much earlier today. And I still believe Clowney won’t be playing for the Eagles in 2019.

It’s possible the Eagles’ mention in this report comes from the Texans, who are trying to create a market for Clowney’s services. Note that Wilson’s report starts out by saying:

“[The] Dolphins are very interested in trading for Jadeveon Clowney, according to league sources, but have to get him interested in going there.”

Houston could be trying to get Miami to increase their offer by making it seem like there are multiple suitors for Clowney’s services.

It’s also possible Clowney is legitimately interested in playing for the Eagles. If that’s truly the case, well, that’s significant because the Texans can’t trade him until he signs his franchise tender. So, Clowney has some leverage here.

The Eagles have assets to acquire Clowney if they really want him. The Texans are reportedly looking for offensive line and/or wide receiver help and the Eagles have depth at those spots. The Eagles could also package draft pick(s) if necessary.

But, as I explained at length earlier, I just don’t see the Eagles making the move. I’m positive Howie Roseman has checked in on the Clowney situation but I think the Eagles already like what they have at defensive end.

I also think the Dolphins will end up being more aggressive in their Clowney pursuit. Reports indicate Miami’s coaching staff has already met with Clowney. The Dolphins have also been rumored to be willing to part with wide receiver Kenny Stills and/or offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, which would fit with the Texans’ reported desires.

It sounds like the Clowney situation could be reaching a resolution in the near future. We’ll soon see how it shakes out.
