Normally we would lament a football game cut short by the elements, but a lightning storm mercifully ended the Eagles’ third preseason game on Thursday evening. Despite a quick match against the Ravens, the Eagles got encouraging glimpses of their 2019 rookie class.
Andre Dillard: B+
The Eagles first round pick continued his encouraging preseason in the Eagles loss to the Ravens. The Ravens are well known for having a deep, talented defensive front and Dillard looked impressive against whoever he faced off against. Dillard gets a ding on his grade for a bad holding penalty, but otherwise the Eagles first round pick should have the team very excited.

Miles Sanders: N/A
It should be exciting that the Eagles sought to keep Miles Sanders off the field for the third preseason game. After an impressive showing last week, Sanders figures as a big part of the offense this year and the team wants to keep him fresh. Sanders did show up on a few kick return reps, which might hint at a special teams role on the team this season. Sanders returned 33 kicks his freshman year of college, five his sophomore year and none when he was the starting back for Penn State. His experience on special teams is there, albeit it’s distant. However it is clear the team believes he can make an impact there.
JJ Arcega Whiteside: A+, 4.0 GPA, Magna Cum Laude
JJ Arcega Whiteside has seen a lot of targets this preseason but this is the game he finally capitalized on the opportunities. Arcega Whiteside had a gorgeous touchdown where he ran a perfect route, adjusted to the ball expertly and reeled in a great pass from Josh McCown. Arcega Whiteside also had a great play where he immediately made a defender miss after the catch and made a huge play on the run. Arcega Whiteside will be incredibly hard to keep off the field for the Eagles; even with Jeffery, Jackson and Agholor ahead of him.

Shareef Miller: C-
Shareef Miller has had a better than advertised preseason but last night was just an average outing. Miller played okay football, but his only highlight was nearly decapitating his ex-college teammate when he egregiously grabbed Trace McSorley’s facemask. Miller has an uphill battle to make the team with a talented defensive line group and the emergence of Daeshon Hall. Next week will be big for miller to prove his place on the team.

Clayton Thorson: N/A
Clayton Thorson played so well last week that Thor himself decided to intercede on the Ravens’ behalf and spare them from utter embarrassment…
Okay, maybe not.
BUT, it is a bit of a shame we did not get to see Thorson play after he showed some promise last week. Anyway, here’s hoping the elements allow Thorson to play next week. With Josh McCown in the fold and playing well, Thorson will have a harder time making the roster. However, with Cody Kessler looking… well, like Cody Kessler, Thorson might have a good chance of taking his place on the final roster if the Eagles keep four quarterbacks (which isn’t super likely).
T.J. Edwards: B
T.J. Edwards continues to play well and make his case for a roster spot. The UDFA from Wisconsin played steady football last night which is all you can ask from a young linebacker. Given the team’s relative thinness at the position, Edwards has a good shot making the roster with play like this.
