Some Eagles starters requested preseason snaps against the Jaguars; Carson Wentz to play next week?

Updates.

The Philadelphia Eagles rested most of their 2019 starters in their first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans last week but it sounds like we’ll see some of them play against the Jacksonville Jaguars tonight.

Speaking with John Clark during NBC10’s pregame show, Eagles legend Mike Quick said that a couple veteran players like Brandon Graham and Malcolm Jenkins told Doug Pederson they want to get some snaps.

Carson Wentz will not be among the Eagles’ starters playing against the Jaguars. Pederson told Clark that Cody Kessler will be getting the start under center.

It sounds like we might seen Wentz play against the Ravens next Thursday night, though? Quick told Clark that he thinks we’ll see No. 11 play in the Eagles’ third preseason game, which historically serves as a dress rehearsal for starters ahead of the regular season.

Even if Wentz DOES play next week, it might not be for very long. Pederson didn’t play his starters much during Philadelphia’s third preseason game against the Dolphins back in 2017 since the Eagles had joint traning camp practices against Miami leadng up to that matchup. The Eagles will host the Ravens for two practices leading up to next week’s game against Baltimore.

The feeling here is that there isn’t much (if any?) upside to playing Wentz in the preseason. But we’ll see how it goes.
