Why some of the More Dominating Headlines this Off-season are WAY off

I, like many of you, have seen some crazy narratives this off-season. Some of these include, "The Eagles should’ve kept Foles and gotten rid of Carson", or the "If Carson doesn’t take the Eagles to the NFC championship game in the next 3 years he should be replaced." There’s also been chatter about our NFC East rivals, such as, "Dallas is the team to beat in the NFC East." And my personal favorite, "The Giants are a likely team to go from worst to first in 2019."

Do you ever feel as if you are watching a different game altogether? While of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, sometimes opinions are just flat out stupid. Let me point out the ways that the aforementioned hot topics are abhorrently inaccurate.

1) 1) "The Eagles Should’ve Kept Foles and Gotten Rid of Carson." Good god. First off, Foles will always be a Philly legend. So, this is certainly not a knock on Foles. But Carson Wentz is the far superior athlete. Wentz is younger. Wentz was a number 2 pick. Wentz was pretty decent his rookie season despite missing most of the preseason, working with a new head coach, being told he was going to be the starter just 7 days before the start of the season, and having his WRs be a combination of Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor (whom I love, but was terrible his first 2 years), Jordan Matthews, and Doriel Green-Beckham! Once 2017 hit, and the front office got guys like Alshon, Smith, and Ajaiya (coupled with Agholor finally getting out of his own head), the Eagles offense was unstoppable. For 13 games, Wentz led us to an 11-2 record, with many of those wins coming by double digits! Then the unfortunate injury happened, and Foles finished the job that Wentz started. But for the morons out there who think that Foles is the better QB than Wentz, well, that’s just Ludacris.

2) 2) McNabb’s statement, "If Carson doesn’t take the Eagles to the NFC championship game in the next 3 years he should be replaced." McNabb will go down as one of the most polarizing athletes in Philadelphia. When he was the QB, fans loved him. He had his problems and his weaknesses, but the city stood behind him. Then once he retired, it came out that McNabb wasn’t a great locker room player. He had favorites. The playbook was cut in half for him to make it easier. He was a bully. Not to mention, he willingly went to the Washington Redskins. Clearly his legacy in Philadelphia had become tainted. And now McNabb, who used to be the face of Philly, sees a more likeable, [arguably] more talented franchise player in Carson Wentz, and of course he is going to be butthurt and sound off on it. McNabb will always hold a special place in our hearts, but it’s clear that the guy just isn’t that good of a dude behind closed doors.

3) 3) "Dallas is the Team to Beat in the NFC East." I actually enjoy watching Skip Bayless praise the Cowboys all the time. He is such a "homer" and such a blatantly biased analyst, that his analysis is comical. Signing Amari Cooper last season turned out to be a good thing for Dallas, and I think that Cooper will only be better in 2019. Prescott is a decent QB but can’t throw the deep ball. Jason Garrett is not a coach that players can rally behind, and in the NFL… coaching is everything. Is Zeke Elliot a good RB? Sure. But do RBs win you games, let alone, divisions? Of course not. Oh and Jason Witten is still the starting TE.

4) 4) "The Giants will go from Worst to First." This was an actual prediction by an ESPN "expert" within the last 2 weeks. This is my personal favorite. The Giants are definitively the worst team in the league. The Giants traded away the best WR in the league for pennies on the dollar. Dave Gettleman has convinced his fanbase that OBJ was a locker room distraction, when in reality, all of his teammates have come out and praised him. Every Giants WR is now a slot receiver (Sheppard, Tate, and Engram who is just labeled a TE but is obviously a slot receiver). The Offensive Line is once again "rebuilt," and there will once again be zero cohesion to start the season. Manning is old, and done, and bad. Once the front office has the balls to bench him (which I don’t even think will be this season), they have Daniel Jones waiting. Now I don’t think it’s fair to knock a rookie before they play a down, but I have a strong feeling that Daniel Jones will be an absolute bust. Now Saquon Barkley is a phenomenal talent. He’s probably the best RB in the league. But oh.my.god. RBs, as we all know, have the shortest shelf life of any other position. He is being used up in his prime years, while the Giants have no direction and no silver lining. It will be at least 4 years until the Giants are competitive, and at that point, Barkley will be far different from the player that he is today.
