Brian Westbrook gives his take on the Eagles’ running back situation

BGN Radio Special with Brian Westbrook and Joe Giglio!

NFL: New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Training camp is here! To help kick off the start of real football action (kind of), Bleeding Green Nation podcasts is ramping up it’s coverage.

On today’s BGN Radio Special, I spoke with Brian Westbrook (yes, the Brian Westbrook), about a few topics concerning the Philadelphia Eagles headed into training camp, along with his thoughts on the running back room and his partnership with Fanduel.

Q (Kist): A lot of people currently use for Fanduel for daily fantasy as well and with what’s going on with the running back room for the Eagles, if I had to play one of the Eagles throughout the season, who do you think it is that carries the load for them throughout the season?

A (Westbrook): I know that they like Jordan Howard, that’s why they went out and got him, but I think Miles Sanders as the season goes on will be much more of their primary running back. He obviously still remains to be seen, he didn’t participate very much during minicamp because of a hamstring but I still think that over time he’ll be the guy that’s going to get most of the carries and most of the touches out of the backfield, as long as he can learn the blocking protections... that’s going to be known right after camp and we’ll find out after these preseason games.

Q (Kist): That’s interesting because he doesn’t have a whole lot of experience with pass protections... how much does it hurt him that he misses [minicamp], how hard is that for a rookie to pick up?

A (Westbrook): Well it’s tough because it’s one thing to learn it on the classroom on the board... going out there and doing it when you have live people coming at you is totally different... trying to figure out and learn during camp when you’re exhausted and when you have a lot of other things going on makes it even more difficult, so it’s going to be tough for him... I think Duce Staley, who’s one of the best running back coaches in the league will make sure that he’s up to par and have him ready for the season.

We talk more about the Eagles’ expectations entering training camp and how to manage those expectations, plus we talk about Westrbook’s partnership with Fanduel. Westbrook wasn’t my only guest on this BGN Radio Special as Joe Giglio of 94WIP and The Art of the Take joined me to talk Eagles. Here’s some of the topics we covered:

  • Super Bowl or bust?
  • Is Joe just mad Howie Roseman?
  • Nate Sudfeld... elite?
  • The stigma around sports talk radio.
  • Takes... have one or you’re a coward.
  • And much more!
