Jeffrey Lurie and Doug Pederson explain why the Eagles signed Carson Wentz to an extension

Dave Spadaro recently caught up with Jeffrey Lurie and Doug Pederson at the Eagles’ coaches golf outing to get their input on the Carson Wentz contract extension. It’s the first time we’ve heard from them since Wentz and the Eagles agreed to terms. Here’s a look at what the Eagles’ Chairman/CEO and head coach each had to say.

JEFFREY LURIE

“We found a wonderful quarterback and person a few years ago. He’s everything you want in a franchise quarterback. To be able to plan ahead and know exactly that he’s going to be with us and build the roster in just the way we want to do it, it means everything. It allows you to make smart decisions. We always wanted a terrific quarterback and a terrific person and he embodies it in every way.”

DOUG PEDERSON

“It feels great. In this league, a lot of things revolve around your quarterback. And for us to be blessed to have obviously moved up the draft board to get Carson at the No. 2 spot a couple years ago, and now to extend him, it gives us stability on offense. It gives our organization stability and I’m excited about that. And obviously the chance to continue to work with him. [...] He looks really good [in spring drills]. He’s strong, he’s healthy. He’s been throwing the ball aggressively. You know, we’re still monitoring his progress. Just want to make sure he’s healthy for training camp. But he’s done a really good job this spring.”

We still haven’t heard directly from Howie Roseman regarding Wentz but the Eagles executive vice president of football operations did look pretty happy in this recent photo:

The Eagles are extremely high on Wentz as the future of their franchise. They wouldn’t have invested $128 million in him if they weren’t.
