The Philadelphia Eagles will soon be shifting to Phase III of their offseason workout program. The team’s first OTA practice is set to take place this coming Tuesday, May 21 at 11:30 AM Eastern. This marks the Eagles’ first real practice ahead of the 2019 NFL season.
OTA practices aren’t as important or intense as training camp practices but they’re sure better than nothing. With that in mind, there are some players we’re excited to see out on on the fields at the NovaCare Complex.
On the latest episode of BGN Radio, John Stolnis and I each came up with one Eagles player to watch at every position on the roster. I’ll spoil a few of my picks here (you can listen to the podcast for the rest):
- Corey Clement — The Eagles added Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders this offseason and all eyes will certainly be on Sanders next week ... but what about the forgotten man? The Eagles were very high on Clement heading into 2018 but injuries seems to hold him back. How healthy is he? And how much will he contribute in this offense?
- Matt Pryor — Does he line up at first team right guard with Brandon Brooks recovering from his Achilles injury? Or do the Eagles let Stefen Wisniewski fill in at that spot? Maybe it’s an open competition?
- Josh Sweat — I think there’s a scenario where Sweat can be a breakout player as a contributor to the Eagles’ pass rush rotation. I think there’s also a scenario where Sweat won’t even make the 53-man roster. With Chris Long potentially retiring, the Eagles need someone to step up and seize that fourth defensive end spot. The opportunity is there for Sweat. Can he make a leap in Year 2?
The latest BGN Radio also features discussion on Joe Douglas potentially leaving for the Jets (and how much the Eagles may or may not miss him), Carson Wentz potentially receiving a new contract this summer ...
