The Eagles take another Penn State guy with the No. 138 (compensatory) pick on Saturday afternoon, EDGE defender Shareef Miller.
There were some mixed reactions to the Eagles first defensive pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, but Miller has some upside and room for development — and it looks like this pick may finalize Chris Long’s decision not to return in 2019.
But one thing’s for sure, the Philly native and his family have to be SUPER excited that Miller will be playing for their favorite team.
At the combine, Philly native Shareef Miller was asked what it would be like to be drafted by the #Eagles

That just happened. pic.twitter.com/6IRQuPNHs5
Shareef Miller is the first Philly native the Eagles have drafted since another George Washington graduate - running back Bruce Perry out of Maryland in the seventh round in 2004.

Seems like Chris Long won’t be back with the Eagles in 2019.

Eagles take Penn State DE Shareef Miller. 7.5 sacks, 15 TFLs last season. Local kid, went to George Washington HS. 6-foot-4, 254 pounds. First defensive player they've selected. Will look to fill a rotational role.

I had Shareef Miller to #Eagles in my first mock draft, but in a later round. Speed off the edge makes him a good fit for Jim Schwartz’s scheme.

DE Shareef Miller is a solid pick by the Eagles. Got better each year at PSU. Productive pass rusher.

Miller isn't explosive, but he is quick off the ball. Good shoulder dip. Good agility helps him to turn the edge and get to the QB. Should be able to contribute as a rookie

I would’ve gone in a different direction, I’ll leave it at that. ♂️

A little bit of what Shareef Miller can do. Hard to get around him in the run game or break away when he gets to the ball.

The speed is the big sell here. pic.twitter.com/73ToFnP8rn
Updated list of #Eagles DEs:
— Dave Zangaro (@DZangaroNBCS) April 27, 2019
Brandon Graham
Derek Barnett
Vinny Curry
Josh Sweat
Shareef Miller
Daeshon Hall
Joe Ostman
(It seems like Chris Long was leaning toward not returning even before this pick.)
Happy for Shareef Miller and hope he finds much success with the Eagles. Yes, he goes back to his hometown, but he told me pre-Combine, he'll never go back to his neighborhood. Better days ahead for him and his family. #WeAre @Sacks5thReef

Eagles take Penn State DE Shareef Miller. What a great, solid pick. Great developmental and coachable pass rusher.

It’s a dream come true for Shareef Miller as he stays in Philly. https://t.co/HZLwCXlezA
