The Eagles took running back Miles Sanders out of Penn State with the No. 53 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Philadelphia was able to land Sanders thanks to a big run on offensive linemen and cornerbacks prior to the first of their two second-round selections.
There were (mostly) positive reactions throughout the Twitterverse with the pick, and Sanders was welcomed with open arms by Eagles players past and present.
And media reactions were equally as complimentary of the Eagles choice. Including this strong take from former NFL scout Greg Gabriel:
The Eagles just got the best back in the draft in Miles Sanders— Greg Gabriel (@greggabe) April 27, 2019
Sanders, 21, rushed 1,274 yards and nine TDs after replacing Saquon Barkley. Becomes first RB taken in second round by Eagles since LeSean McCoy in 2009.— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) April 27, 2019

The #Eagles picked a Penn State running back at No. 53 overall.
The Eagles made the better move.
I'm okay with Miles Sanders, lot of smoke around the pick so it was kind of expected.. think he's a solid player but a really tough eval for me as I've said several times. Now I want one of "my guys" next.— Michael Kist (@MichaelKistNFL) April 27, 2019

Eagles ultimately received Dallas Goedert, Avonte Maddox, Miles Sanders
Ravens received Lamar Jackson, Jaleel Scott
Sanders is a good fit for the Eagles because he can be a volume runner or role player. Also has big play ability. He's not just a RB. He's a weapon, what the backfield needed.— Tommy Lawlor (@lawlornfl) April 27, 2019
The Eagles use their first pick in Round 2 (53 overall) on Penn St. running back Miles Sanders. Saquon Barkley's successor, he ran for over 1,200 yards (5.8 ypc) with 9 TDs last season.— Tim McManus (@Tim_McManus) April 27, 2019
I am super into the Miles Sanders pick, but am a little skeptical... I asked him at the Combine his thoughts on Wawa and he said he was a Sheetz guy....— Alexis Chassen (@Lovelybuckeye) April 27, 2019
But I still like the pick!
Not only is Miles Sanders the first Eagles RB to be selected in the second round since LeSean McCoy, both were selected No. 53 overall.— Tim McManus (@Tim_McManus) April 27, 2019

Miles Sanders' jump cuts are... phew. You're all going to have LeSean McCoy flash backs except he's built AF too.— Kyle (@IgglesNest) April 27, 2019
Love it. Miles Sanders is a stud RB. Only one year of heavy use and he was great. Big time piece for the Eagles offense.— Tommy Lawlor (@lawlornfl) April 27, 2019
The Eagles took snaps from shotgun the 2nd most often in the NFL (Chiefs) and when in shotgun, had the 4th highest run rate. https://t.co/VIovvJRa3h— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) April 27, 2019

Eagles also needed a kick returner and Sanders has a lot of experience there. Logical fit in a lot of ways— Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) April 27, 2019
Pretty wild how the Eagles have the best Penn State running back in the league— Rohan Singh (@haan_singh91) April 27, 2019
Been super busy with the 2 quick picks but here's the take on Sanders:— Mike Kaye (@mike_e_kaye) April 27, 2019
- As I reported a few times, the #Eagles loved Sanders throughout the process
- The Eagles wanted to take a running back at some point
- He had a really, really strong pro day as a route runner and receiver.
