The 2019 NFL regular season doesn’t begin until September but preparation for the Philadelphia Eagles’ quest to get back to the Super Bowl begins now. The Eagles officially kick off their offseason workout program today on Monday, April 15.
Note that the Eagles are not doing full practices yet. They’re just getting back in the swing of things with strength and conditioning drills. The Eagles are in “Phase One” of their workouts, as the CBA defines below:
Phase One shall consist of the first two weeks of the Club’s offseason workout program. Subject to the additional rules set forth in Section 5 of this Article, Phase One activities shall be limited to strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation only. During Phase One, only full time or part-time strength and conditioning coaches, who have no other coaching responsibilities with the Club, shall be allowed on the field; no other coaches shall be allowed on the field or to otherwise participate in or observe activities. No footballs shall be permitted to be used (only “dead ball” activities), except that quarterbacks may elect to throw to receivers provided they are not covered by any other player. Players cannot wear helmets during Phase One.
Remember, these offseason workouts are held on a voluntary basis. It’s quite possible some Eagles players will not be present in Philly today. News of any significant absences might leak out at some point. It’ll also be interesting to see which players around the league might be holding out.
As they’ve done in years past, the Eagles will likely make some key players (such as Carson Wentz) available to the media this week. It’ll be the first time we’ve really heard from players since the 2018 season ended in January.
