Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson

Although the Titans offensive picture is a bit muddled at quarterback with Marcus Mariota and Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee filled holes in the offense with additions along the line and wide receiver via free agency. I think they go defense in a draft strong along the defensive line. As GM, this will be Jon Robinson’s 4th draft. Robinson has shown that he is not averse to trading picks so he will probably trade back. That said, in this mock, he will stay put at 19 and draft Clemson DT Christian Wilkins, the best defensive line player available that will fit the Titans’ 3-4 scheme and solidify the Titans’ defensive line. He’s a good run-stopping defensive tackle who is versatile enough to play end when needed. According to Peter King, “Tennessee got very little last season from free-agent addition Bennie Logan, and the defense could upgrade on either side of elite nose tackle Jurrell Casey in its 3-4. Wilkins (6-4, 312) could play tackle in a 4-3 or end in a 3-4.”

Check the highlight film:

He is effective anywhere he is put on the line. Although the draft is in Nashville, I do not think that changes their strategy. The team needs stability. Wilkins offers that. As the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy awardee and 2-time National Champion with Clemson, Christian will bring long term defense leadership, identity and character to a Titans team that could use it.
