Another Eagles player leaving Philly?

UPDATE: NFL insider Adam Schefter reports Jay Ajayi will specifically be visiting the Colts on Wednesday, March 20. Original story below.

Free agent running back Jay Ajayi is set to visit the Indianapolis Colts next week, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

It’s no surprise that the Colts are interested in Ajayi given that they’re coached by former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

It is a little annoying to see the Eagles’ running back options potentially continue to dwindle. Ajayi returning to Philly has never been a sure bet but there’s been thought he could return to the Eagles on an inexpensive, one-year deal. Ajayi visiting with the Colts doesn’t necessarily rule him out from coming back but it could suggest he’s just going to end up in Indy.

Again, it’s not like the Eagles’ options to upgrade the backfield are disappearing completely. Hopefully they’ll find a way to do something good sooner rather than later, though. The position is an obvious need with Ajayi potentially moving on and Darren Sproles not guaranteed to be back in 2019.

Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, Josh Adams, Boston Scott, and Donnel Pumphrey are the only Eagles running backs currently under contract.
