Eagles seemingly have their new defensive line coach

More internal promotions.

The Philadelphia Eagles are seemingly promoting defensive quality control/assistant defensive line coach Phillip Daniels (pictured above this article trying to tackle current Eagles running back coach Duce Staley) to defensive line coach. Daniels’ official Twitter account recently retweeted some tweets congratulating him on the promotion.

The Eagles had a vacancy due to former defensive line coach Chris Wilson’s contract expiring. It’s unclear if the Eagles didn’t want him back or he wanted to move on. Wilson was originally hired by Philly back in 2016.

Daniels was also hired as a member of Doug Pederson’s original coaching staff three years ago. The former NFL defensive end has spent the last three years as an assistant to Wilson.

The Daniels promotion is just another example of how the Eagles prefer to promote from within. Even the Eagles’ reported external hires this offseason (Matt Burke, Roy Istvan) have really close connections to current staff members. In other words, familiarity is highly valued by Pederson.

Here’s a snapshot of Daniels’ football resume:

1996-1999: Defensive end — Seattle Seahawks

2000-2003: Defensive end — Chicago Bears

2004-2010: Defensive end — Washington Redskins

2012: Director of player development — Washington Redskins

2016-2018: Defensive quality control/assistant defensive line coach — Philadelphia Eagles
