It’s an extremely slow news time for the Philadelphia Eagles right now, so here I am writing an article about Alshon Jeffery tweeting about his desire for Kelly Green jerseys.
Can we bring these uniforms back @Eagles...
— Alshon Jeffery (@TheWorldof_AJ) February 21, 2019
This actually isn’t the first time Jeffery has expressed his love for the Eagles’ retro uniforms. A few months after signing with Philly back in 2017, Jeffery tweeted this:
My favorite Eagles Uniform!!! #FlashBackFriday #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/PW4qLzRbBJ

Jalen Mills also campaigned for the color back in 2017.
I mean, the Eagles should probably grant Jeffery’s request. The guy played through the entire 2017 season with a torn rotator cuff in order to help Philly win their first Super Bowl title.
Unfortunately, the decision isn’t fully up to the Eagles. Lurie had the following to say about the status of the Kelly Green revival at last year’s NFL owners meetings in March:
Q: Have you made any progress on being able to use Kelly Green helmets?
LURIE: I was just dealing with this yesterday. What we’re hoping to have happen is, and I don’t know if I mentioned this last year, the whole key was we want a Kelly Green helmet to go with the Kelly Green jerseys. OK? We’re trying to get the league to allow a second helmet. That’s where it’s at. So they very much know we want this and we want it badly. And we’re waiting.
Q: I knew you were hopeful it would be ready soon. Is that still on the table?
LURIE: Right. I don’t know. As I said, I was on it yesterday. Trying to make progress. We don’t have a game for half a year, so, you never know.
Q: Which entity of the league decides this?
LURIE: It’s … I don’t know what entity of the league, but in the end it’s probably the commissioner [Roger Goodell]. They have to decide do they want to go with a plan that would be a two helmet plan for the NFL. That’s not what we do now. It’s a one helmet league. So there’s ramifications in that I suppose. They know that with the Eagles, it’s important to us. We really want to be able to have Kelly Green jerseys at times. To make it look really right, we should have matching helmets.
Q: What’s the objection to two different helmets?
LURIE: You’d really have to kind of research with [the league] a little bit. There’s a lot of teams that don’t want that to happen, maybe. Some teams really want it to happen. There’s some complications to it. So I just need them to work it out.
As Lurie referenced here, the Eagles originally made an alternate helmet proposal back in 2017 before withdrawing it due to a lack of support. At the time, Lurie said he wanted to bring Kelly Green back as an alternate uniform. He also didn’t rule it out overtaking midnight green as the full time jersey in the future.
On that note, it seems like the love for Kelly Green has waned since the Eagles won their first Vince Lombardi Trophy while wearing their current colors. Look at this poll from last year:

Fans may be split on the team’s full time uniform but Kelly Green is still favored over all-black as an alternate jersey:

Hopefully we’ll receive another update on the status of Kelly Green jerseys from Lurie during this year’s NFL owners meeting set to take place from March 24 through March 27.
Sorry that they’re keeping you waiting, Alshon.
