A former Super Bowl MVP is headed to Denver this offseason but it’s not going to be Nick Foles. The Broncos are trading for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter. The trade compensation is reportedly a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Broncos were thought to be one of the top potential landing spots for Foles. As of last month, NFL odds had Denver as BDN’s fourth most likely destination.
With the Broncos no longer in the market for a starting quarterback, the Eagles have one fewer potential suitor if they hope to trade Foles. On the flip side, there’s one fewer starting quarterback option out there for QB-needy teams.
Recent reports indicate that the Eagles do hope to place the franchise tag on Foles with the intent of trading him. The Jacksonville Jaguars have been rumored as the Eagles’ preferred destination for their backup quarterback.
As we’ve endlessly mentioned by now, trading Foles comes with complications. The Eagles basically can’t place the tag on Foles unless they already have a deal 100% lined up, just like the Broncos and Ravens now do.
It’ll be very interesting to see what happens with Foles this offseason. At the very least, we now know he won’t be heading to the Broncos.
