With the offseason underway, there’s a bevy of choices facing the Philadelphia Eagles. What players the Eagles will re-sign, cut, renegotiate with, pursue in free agency, and draft is still a mystery, but that picture is becoming more clear.
For starters, it doesn’t sound like the Eagles are working with Golden Tate on a contract extension. Is it because they’re waiting to move Nelson Agholor and his healthy fifth-year option price tag of $9.3M? Or because they’re looking to take a second swing at New York Jets’ restricted free agent Robby Anderson? Regardless of the cause, Tate’s recent tweets sure make it seem like the Eagles aren’t prioritizing his return.
Next there’s the question of linebacker Jordan Hicks. During his four years with the Eagles, Hicks earned a mere $4.3M on his rookie contract. Chances are he’s looking to cash in, and he’s made it sound like he will test free agency. Will he find greener pastures on the market or will the market roll back his prices due to a long injury history? If Hicks does walk, it might not be the best draft class to need a linebacker.
What’s not clear is how the Eagles will attack the 2019 NFL Draft. There’s still a good deal of moving and shaking to go before they’re on the clock, but on The Kist & Solak Show #78 we took a crack at a pre-Combine seven round mock for the Eagles anyway. Once The Draft Network’s mock draft simulator is live in a couple weeks, I’ll be posting more of these mocks as we churn through the waves of the offseason.
