The Philadelphia Eagles re-signed Marken Michel to fill out their 10-man practice squad, according to an official announcement from the team.
Michel was one of the six players the Eagles brought in for a workout earlier this week. Here’s what we wrote at the time:
The Eagles originally signed Michel to a future contract after the 2018 season. He had some nice moments during offseason practices and even burned Tennessee Titans starting cornerback Adoree’ Jackson for a 75-yard touchdown in the preseason. The Eagles waived Michel in final roster cuts and he’s remained available since. Philly desperately needs to add some explosive speed to their offense. Re-signing Michel could be worth a shot.
The Eagles only have four receivers on the 53-man roster after waiving Mack Hollins so the team wanted another practice body at that position.
On one hand, Michel had a nice offseason and it’s worth taking another look at him.
On the other hand, the Eagles continue to lack creativity. They often default to going back to guys they know (see: re-re-signing Jordan Matthews) as opposed to trying someone new.
The Eagles will likely offer Michel a future contract after the year is over so he’ll have another chance to make the 53-man roster for next season. Or he could get called up in the next few weeks if one of Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, or Greg Ward get hurt.
