Eagles vs. Giants Week 17 preview and predictions

There’s been some unrest among Philadelphia Eagles fans this week and it’s not hard to understand why. The Eagles losing to the New York Giants and failing to clinch the NFC East would be a pretty devastating end to the 2019 season. Beating the Dallas Cowboys last week only to watch them win the division anyway would sure suck.

You can say I’m tempting fate but I don’t think that’ll happen. I believe the Eagles are going to beat the Giants in today’s Week 17 matchup.

Don’t get me wrong, I hardly think it’ll be easy for the Birds. It rarely is. The Giants took the Eagles to overtime just a few weeks ago ... and that was with a worse quarterback starting for New York. Daniel Jones and a healthier Saquon Barkley have the potential to do some real damage to Philadelphia’s very vulnerable road defense.

The Eagles are going to be relying on an undermanned offense to outpace the points the Giants should be able to put up. Carson Wentz will be without his top target in Zach Ertz so the pressure is on Dallas Goedert to have another big game. The Eagles’ practice squad receiving corps should be able to take advantage of an injured and inexperienced Giants secondary.

Doug Pederson can be trusted to get enough out of the offense in this game. It’s up to Jim Schwartz’s side of the ball to force a turnover or two and that should be doable given Jones’ propensity to fumble and/or throw picks.

The Eagles know they can’t afford a letdown in this spot. It’s a must-win game with the NFC East on the line. Win and they go to the playoffs. Lose and their season is over, barring an unlikely Dallas loss to Washington.

Do the damn thing.
