Early in the second quarter against the Cowboys, Eagles’ cornerback Ronald Darby and tight end Zach Ertz both went into the locker room with injuries.
Ertz being sidelined seemed like a matter of time after the tight end took two huge hits early in the game, including one that had him evaluated in the blue medical tent before returning to the field. He only had two targets in the first quarter, but got laid out on both.
The Eagles are already without most of their starting skill players, and Ertz brought much-needed veteran experience and often drew double coverage. Without Ertz, they have Dallas Goedert and Joshua Perkins — and a slew of young wide receivers and running backs.
Darby’s exit came off a series in which he allowed a big 41-yard third down conversion, despite super tight coverage on Dallas WR Michael Gallop. Just a few plays later he made his way to the locker room, which was later announced to be a hip flexor issue. Rasul Douglas is currently filling in for Darby.
