Here are some suggestions when trying to beat the odds.

Before the sixteenth Sunday of the 2019 NFL regular season kicks off, let’s have some fun by taking a look at the spreads for the Week 16 games. You can CLICK HERE for straight up NFL picks without regard to the spread. You can find all of the NFL betting lines via DraftKings SportsBook.

My overall record so far is 107-113-7 after going 7-8-1 last week and 0-2-1 on this week’s Saturday games. I’m still doing better than the collective BGN community, which is 105-115-7 so far.

NFL WEEK 16 GAMES

BALTIMORE RAVENS (-10) at CLEVELAND BROWNS: The Browns beat the Ravens earlier this season but so what? You can’t trust this dysfunctional and disappointing Cleveland team as far as you can throw them. The Ravens are coming off extra rest and playing to get the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoff picture. Hard to bet against Baltimore. PICK: Ravens -10

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (-2.5) at TENNESSEE TITANS: The Titans are still fighting to stay alive in the playoff picture. They’ll put forth a good effort at home against a New Orleans team playing on a short week. As astutely noted by Evan Silva, Drew Brees hasn’t played a full road game outdoors since Week 15 of the 2018 season. I like the points in what could be a close game. PICK: Titans +2.5

PITTSBURGH STEELERS (-3) at NEW YORK JETS: Huge coaching mismatch here between Mike Tomlin and Adam Gase. Devlin Hodges isn’t inspiring much confidence after his last outing but the Steelers should be fighting hard to remain in the playoff picture. The Jets, meanwhile, don’t have anything to play for. PICK: Steelers -3

CAROLINA PANTHERS at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (-6.5): Will Grier is a wild card as he makes his first NFL start but I don’t love the love the Colts are getting here. Indy has lost four in a row and Jacoby Brissett hasn’t being playing well; he has a 77.9 passer rating over the past five games. Not to mention the Colts are playing on short rest here. Indy will win but I don’t know about them covering. PICK: Panthers +6.5

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS at ATLANTA FALCONS (-7): The Falcons are 4-2 in their last six games and there were some high quality wins in there (at New Orleans, at San Francisco). The Jags, meanwhile, had been getting regularly blown out before a last comeback last weekend. Feels like the Falcons are trending in the more trustworthy direction.

CINCINNATI BENGALS (-1.5) at MIAMI DOLPHINS: It would be very Bengals of the Bengals to potentially jeopardize picking No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft with a win here. If the Dolphins can lose to the G-Men, they can lose to Cincy. Tank mode, baby. PICK: Bengals -1.5

NEW YORK GIANTS (-1) at WASHINGTON: For all his issues, Daniel Jones has still looked significantly better than Dwayne Haskins this season. New York blew out Washington earlier this season and I think they can win this matchup again. PICK: Giants -1

DETROIT LIONS at DENVER BRONCOS (-7): The Broncos were playing inspired football as recently as two weeks ago while the David Blough Lions sure look dead in the water. PICK: Broncos -7

OAKLAND RAIDERS at LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (-7.5): Never know what to make of the Chargers. They should be able to win this game; the Raiders have a bottom four point differential and are worse than their record appears. And yet going with my gut when it comes to the Chargers has burned me in recent weeks so I’ll say screw it and take the points. Can’t wait to be wrong again. PICK: Raiders +7.5

DALLAS COWBOYS (-2.5) at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: The Eagles are 0-5 against the Cowboys when Ezekiel Elliott plays. We’ve yet to see Philadelphia’s defense have an answer for him or Amari Cooper. Dak Prescott’s shoulder creates some uncertainty here but, assuming he’s okay, the Cowboys’ winning streak over the Eagles should persist. Philly doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. ARIZONA CARDINALS at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (-9): The Seahawks have played down to the level of their competition for almost the entire season. One of the exceptions is when they beat the Cards by three possessions on the road. The Seahawks should be locked in for a game that’ll put them one step closer to clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff picture. PICK: Seahawks -9

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-6) at CHICAGO BEARS: Mitchell Trubisky had a pretty nice two-game stretch before crashing down to Earth last weekend. Safe to say he’ll be out-dueled by Patrick Mahomes in this one. The Chiefs are hot and have much more to play for than the Bears do. Give me Andy Reid over Matt Nagy. PICK: Chiefs -6

GREEN BAY PACKERS at MINNESOTA VIKINGS (-5.5): Wow. The Vikings (No. 7) actually rank higher than the Packers (No. 9) in DVOA but I’m still surprised to see them favored by this much. Green Bay definitely has some fraud vibes to them. But how much faith are you really putting in Kirk Cousins to come up in such a big spot against Aaron Rodgers? And to not only win but to do it rather decisively? The points feel too good to be true here and there’s probably a reason for that. But trusting Cousins has never been my brand and I’m not about to change that. PICK: Packers +5.5
