The Philadelphia Eagles officially downgraded the following three players to OUT for the team’s Week 15 game against the Washington Redskins after previously ruling them questionable: Jordan Howard, Nelson Agholor, and Derek Barnett.
None of these developments come as a surprise. Here’s what we previously wrote about them on Friday:
Howard still hasn’t been cleared for contact, per Doug Pederson. Howard is on track to miss his fifth game in a row since first getting hurt in Week 9. Miles Sanders will likely handle the bulk of the Eagles’ running back workload but Boston Scott clearly deserves more playing time after his breakout performance against the New York Giants. Jay Ajayi doesn’t warrant snaps at this point.
Agholor didn’t practice at all this week so it’s hard to believe he’ll actually play. With Agholor likely out and Alshon Jeffery on injured reserve, the Eagles will only have three true wide receivers active for the second consecutive game: JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Greg Ward, and the recently promoted Robert Davis. The Eagles also use third string tight end Joshua Perkins as a hybrid receiver.
Barnett also failed to practice this week so he’s likely not going to play. Barnett’s likely absence means Vinny Curry will start opposite of Brandon Graham. Curry, Josh Sweat, and Daeshon Hall all stand to see more snaps. Genard Avery didn’t appear on defense at all in Week 14 so who knows how much he’ll play in this one.
It’s worth noting that the Eagles did not downgrade Ronald Darby, who was ruled questionable after newly popping up on the Friday injury report. Perhaps that’s a sign he’ll actually play.
Injury issues have plagued the Eagles all season and this weekend will be no different. The team will have to overcame adversity once again. Washington being even more banged up than the Eagles are could help matters.
