Before the ninth Sunday of the 2019 NFL regular season kicks off, let’s have some fun by taking a look at the spreads for the Week 9 games. You can CLICK HERE for straight up NFL picks without regard to the spread. You can find all of the NFL betting lines via DraftKings SportsBook.
My overall record so far is 57-61-4 after going 11-4 last week (!) and incorrectly predicting this week’s TNF game. I’m still doing better than the collective BGN community, which is 53-65-4 so far.
NFL WEEK 9 GAMES
HOUSTON TEXANS (-1) at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: The Jags (11th) actually rank higher than the Texans (13th) in DVOA. Houston is going to be without their top pass rusher, two of their top three cornerbacks, and a starting safety on the road. The Jags almost beat the Texans in Houston earlier this year and they’ll be able to pull it off this time. Gardner Minshew mania rolls on. Hat tip to Evan Silva on this section. Jaguars +1

MINNESOTA VIKINGS (-4) at KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: Matt Moore is no Patrick Mahomes, to say the least, but he hasn’t looked bad. The Vikings have been hot but it’s only a matter of time before Kirk Cousins fails to show up against a quality opponent. I like KC outright but I think they at least make this a field goal game. PICK: Chiefs +4

WASHINGTON REDSKINS at BUFFALO BILLS (-10.5): Dwayne Haskins looked absolutely lost in his first NFL action earlier this season. It’s going to be a tough go for him against a tough Buffalo defense that’ll be looking to bounce back. It’s hard to trust the Bills’ offense to cover but Haskins’ propensity for rookie mistakes lends to defensive scoring. The Bills win and cover. PICK: Bills -10.5

CHICAGO BEARS at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (-4.5): Mitchell Trubisky ranks 27th in passer rating this season and that figure could easily be worse if not for two garbage time touchdowns. The Eagles’ defense should be able to contain the Bears’ struggling offense. On the other side of the ball, DeSean Jackson’s potential return could be huge for Philadelphia’s offense. The Linc is going to be juiced up with the Eagles playing their first home game since Week 5. Eagles win decisively. PICK: Eagles -4.5

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (-1) at PITTSBURGH STEELERS: The Steelers are playing on a short week after needing a significant comeback effort to beat a winless Miami team. I trust Jacoby Brissett more than Mason Rudolph here. Bet against Frank Reich at your own peril. PICK: Colts -1

NEW YORK JETS (-3.5) at MIAMI DOLPHINS: Call me crazy but I’m taking the Dolphins to win outright. They’re trying to lose on purpose, which makes this a questionable pick, but they’ve looked competitive in their last three games! The Jets are also very bad and not good enough to be getting this many points on the road. Miami should at least cover. PICK: Dolphins +3.5
Poll
Which bet do you like more?
TENNESSEE TITANS at CAROLINA PANTHERS (-3.5): Kyle Allen and the Panthers had a rough go against an undefeated San Francisco team but they should be able to bounce back at home against a bad Tennessee team. There’s a DVOA mismatch here with the Panthers ranking 15th and the Titans ranking 24th. PICK: Panthers -3.5

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (-5.5): The Seahawks have been far from dominant at home this season but Jameis Winston has accounted for 12 combined interceptions and fumbles in the Bucs’ last two games. 12! He’s a turnover machine. Can’t possibly take him over potential NFL MVP Russell Wilson. PICK: Seahawks -5.5

GREEN BAY PACKERS (-3.5) at LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: If Chicago doesn’t badly botch an end of game sequence last week, the Bolts are 0-4 in their last four games. Aaron Rodgers is hot right now with 10 touchdowns and one interception in his last three starts. Not gonna bet against that guy. PICK: Packers -3.5

CLEVELAND BROWNS (-4) at DENVER BRONCOS: The Broncos (21st) actually rank ahead of the Browns (23rd) in DVOA. Not sure what to make of Brandon Allen in his first NFL start but maybe he’ll actually be an upgrade on Flacco? Even if the Broncos lose, Vic Fangio’s top three DVOA defense could keep them in this game against a struggling Browns squad. PICK: Broncos +4

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (-3) at BALTIMORE RAVENS: The points are tempting because it feels like the Ravens have a shot to win this game outright. But the Patriots will find a way to stay undefeated. PICK: Patriots -3
