HOWIE ROSEMAN DOES IT AGAIN!

THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES SIGNED LONG SNAPPER RICK LOVATO TO A FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION THROUGH THE 2023 NFL SEASON, ACCORDING TO AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE TEAM.

LOVATO WAS PREVIOUSLY SET TO BE A RESTRICTED FREE AGENT AFTER THE 2019 SEASON. BUT NOW THE EAGLES HAVE LOCKED UP A CORE PIECE FOR A LONG TIME.

THE 27-YEAR-OLD LOVATO ORIGINALLY SIGNED WITH THE EAGLES DURING THE 2016 SEASON WHEN JON DORENBOS GOT HURT. LOVATO THEN BEAT OUT DORENBOS FOR THE LONG SNAPPING JOB AHEAD OF THE 2017 NFL SEASON. LOVATO’S EFFORTS GUIDED THE EAGLES TO THEIR FIRST SUPER BOWL WIN.

LOVATO HAS BEEN GIVING THE EAGLES CONSISTENTLY GOOD SNAPS SINCE ARRIVING IN PHILLY. HE ACTUALLY GRADED OUT AS PFF’S EIGHT BEST LONG SNAPPER IN 2018.

THE EAGLES HAVE LARGELY BEEN A MEDIOCRE TEAM SINCE THE START OF LAST SEASON BUT LOVATO IS ONE OF THE GOOD THINGS THEY HAVE GOING FOR THEM. THAT’S WHY I’M SO EXCITED HE’S STAYING IN PHILLY.

Note that Eagles kicker Jake Elliott is set to be a restricted free agent and Eagles punter Cameron Johnston is set to be an exclusive-rights free agent after this season. The team could look to sign them to long-term extensions in the near future as well.
