The Philadelphia Eagles issued their second official injury report on Thursday in advance of their Week 11 game against the New England Patriots.
The bad news for the Eagles is that Alshon Jeffery missed practice for the second day in a row. No official determination has been made yet but it’s looking like he won’t be suiting up on Sunday.
Jeffery has hardly been great this season but he’s easily been the best of the Eagles’ struggling wide receivers. With Jeffery hurting and DeSean Jackson on injured reserve, Philadelphia will likely be down to just Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside against the NFL’s top ranked defense. Those four players have accounted for 15 receptions, 127 yards, zero touchdowns, and one fumble over the last six games. Far from ideal for Carson Wentz!
Jeffery’s potential absence should force the Eagles to heavily rely upon their running game and two tight end sets featuring Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. If the Patriots are going to shadow Ertz with Stephon Gilmore since Jeffery is out, the Eagles really need Goedert to have a big game. There’s also pressure on Arcega-Whiteside — whom the coaching staff has touted as Jeffery’s primary backup — to give this team more production than the two receptions for 14 yard in 176 offensive snaps played thus far.
Nigel Bradham also missed practice for the second day in a row. Doug Pederson seemed to be optimistic Bradham could play without practicing but we’ll have to see about that.
Darren Sproles missed Thursday’s practice with a quadricep issue. Seems like the 36-year-old may have suffered a setback after only returning to the field in Week 9.
Jordan Howard and Jason Peters were both limited for the second day in a row.
The Eagles really need Howard to play since they’ll need to rely on their rushing attack to win games down the stretch.
Peters seems on track to replace Andre Dillard at left tackle. Of course, one must wonder how long it’ll be before Peters has to leave the field again.
We’ll learn even more abut the team’s injury situation when they put out their final injury report on Friday afternoon.
