The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t make a deadline day trade but they DID make a deadline day practice squad change. Pretty much the same thing, right?
The team officially announced they’ve re-signed defensive tackle Bruce Hector to the practice squad. In order to make room for Hector, the Eagles released cornerback Ajene Harris.
Hector began the season on the practice squad and remained there until getting called up to the roster ahead of the Eagles’ Week 8 game against the Bills. He played 30 defensive snaps in Buffalo, which was the second most of any player at his position. The Eagles then waived Hector on Monday in order to make room for the Genard Avery trade acquisition.
It makes sense that the Eagles brought Hector back to the practice squad since Fletcher Cox, Anthony Rush, and Albert Huggins are the only three healthy defensive tackles on the 53-man roster. Timmy Jernigan is still “day-to-day” and isn’t expected to play this Sunday but perhaps he’ll be back after the Eagles’ Week 10 bye.
Harris was expendable since the Eagles are getting healthier at cornerback. Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby are back in the starting lineup while Avonte Maddox could play against the Chicago Bears this weekend. Cre’Von LeBlanc isn’t healthy enough yet to come off injured reserve just yet but he’s now eligible to be activated at any moment.
