The Philadelphia Eagles had been linked to Leonard Williams prior to Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline but that’s not happening now. The New York Giants reportedly acquired Williams from the New York Jets in exchange for a pair of draft picks. Here are the full terms of the deal:
Jets/Giants trade terms ...

• Giants get DL Leonard Williams.
• Jets get a '20 3rd-rounder, and a '21 pick. That pick is a 4 if Williams signs a new deal with the Giants before free agency. It's a 5 if he doesn't.
• Jets will pick up $4M of Williams' remaining '19 money.
That cost is a little more than what I would’ve expected for an expiring player with zero sacks through seven games this season.
It’s also surprising the Giants are investing in a potential rental when they’re off to a 2-6 start. Even more so given that interior defensive line wasn’t really a big need for them. Then again ...
Y’all ‘member when the Panthers had Star Lotulelei and Kawaan Short and Dave Gettleman drafted Vernon Butler in the first round because he “couldn’t help his hog molly self?”

The early reaction on the trade from Giants fans over at Big Blue View isn’t overwhelmingly positive:

Regardless, now we know the Eagles will have to look elsewhere for defensive line help. Broncos defender Derek Wolfe is among the trade options to keep an eye on.
Williams logged one solo tackle and no other stats when he faced off against the Eagles as a member of the Jets in Week 5. Now Williams will play the Eagles twice more this season with the Giants scheduled to face Philly in Week 14 and Week 17.
UPDATE: Long live Dave Gettleman.
According to sources, #Giants were the only team realistically in on Leonard Williams. No one else wanted him because of his lack-of production, impending free agency, and $6m remaining base.

Buyers weren’t there for #Jets GM Joe Douglas.
He got a bite w/ Gettleman
