NFL Picks Against the Spread: Week 8 Games

Here are some suggestions when trying to beat the odds.

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Before the eighth Sunday of the 2019 NFL regular season kicks off, let’s have some fun by taking a look at the spreads for the Week 8 games. You can CLICK HERE for straight up NFL picks without regard to the spread. You can find all of the NFL betting lines via DraftKings SportsBook.

My overall record so far is 46-57-4 after going 6-7-1 last week and incorrectly predicting this week’s TNF game. I’m still doing better than the collective BGN community, which is 44-59-4 so far.

NFL WEEK 8 GAMES

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES at BUFFALO BILLS (-2.5): The level of confidence in the Eagles should be extremely low. They’re injured, they’re disjointed, and they’re just not very good. So, with that said, I think the Eagles will rally and find a way to win. We’ve seen Doug Pederson’s teams bounce back from ugly losses in the past. Going down with the ship here. PICK: Eagles +2.5

CINCINNATI BENGALS at LOS ANGELES RAMS (-12): Will Zac Taylor have an edge on his former team? No, but I guess that’s the most interesting angle to this game. The Bengals stink. The Rams should be able to win easily. Jalen Ramsey notches a pair of picks in his LA debut. PICK: Rams -12

ARIZONA CARDINALS at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (-10): Don’t sleep on the Cards, they’re on a three-game win streak! Nah, just kidding. They’ve beat some bad teams in some close games. The short-handed Saints went into Chicago and won easily last week. New Orleans is getting some reinforcements, including some guy named Drew Brees. The Saints should be able to cover. NEW YORK GIANTS at DETROIT LIONS (-6.5): Daniel Jones since Week 4: 3 TD, 7 INT, 3 fumbles. The rookie quarterback is clearly struggling to protect the ball. The Lions are due for some good luck at some point after being pretty unlucky this season. PICK: Lions -6.5

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS at CHICAGO BEARS (-4): Tough one! No team snatches defeat from the jaws of victory quite like the Chargers do. Don’t love the West Coast warm weather team in Chicago here. And yet, Mitchell Trubisky is both bad and playing at less than 100%. Bears may very well win but can’t feel good about them covering here. PICK: Chargers +4

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (-6.5) at ATLANTA FALCONS: Matt Schaub is still in the league? He was incredibly washed the last time he played as a starter and that was back in 2015. Now he’s 38. Schaub should have a pick six or two that should easily help the Seahawks cover. PICK: Seahawks -6.5

DENVER BRONCOS at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (-5): The Broncos’ sole road win this season came over a team (LAC) that doesn’t have a home field advantage. Denver hasn’t otherwise been competitive in their away games. The Broncos are in selling mode after dealing Emmanuel Sanders while the Colts actually want to win. PICK: Colts -5

NEW YORK JETS at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (-7): The Jets sure are a mess right now. Enter obligatory comment about Sam Darnold “seeing ghosts” here. Gardner Minshew has looked more like a rookie lately, which makes the seven points daunting. But New York is playing on short rest and doesn’t have as much as Jacksonville has to play for with Nick Foles coming back in a few weeks. PICK: Jaguars -7

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS at TENNESSEE TITANS (-2.5): I didn’t follow my own rule of not betting on Jameis Winston the last time the Bucs played. It was a dumb decision as he threw five interceptions and fumbled twice in one game. It’s not like Ryan Tannehill is that much more inspiring but I’d rather not go down counting on Winston again. CAROLINA PANTHERS at SAN FRANCISCO 49ers (-2.5): Kyle Allen and Jimmy Garoppolo are both facing their toughest tests of the season. Allen has an especially steep hill to climb against this San Francisco defense that pitched a shutout on the road last week. Maybe it’ll be foolish to continue doubting the Panthers but it just feels like Allen is bound to have a pumpkin performance at some point here. PICK: 49ers -2.5

CLEVELAND BROWNS at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (-10.5): Hm, will Bill Belichick find a way to beat up on his former team en route to his 300th career win? Sounds pretty believable. The Patriots’ defense should be able to generate pressure and make life tough on Baker Mayfield. PICK: Patriots -10.5

OAKLAND RAIDERS at HOUSTON TEXANS (-6.5): This line is giving too much respect to the Texans and not enough to the Raiders. Houston is 14th in DVOA while Oakland is only six spots behind at 20th. The Raiders very well may lose but they should be able to hang in a close game here. Take the points. PICK: Raiders +6.5

GREEN BAY PACKERS (-4.5) at KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: Can’t rule out Andy Reid putting together a great game plan together for Matt Moore. But are you really trusting Moore over Aaron Rodgers, who’s coming off his best performance of the season? Don’t overthink this. PICK: Packers -4.5

MIAMI DOLPHINS at PITTSBURGH STEELERS (-14): The Dolphins have actually looked competitive over the past two weeks. Can they keep it up? Nope, the Steelers will win comfortably returning from their bye. Minkah Fitzpatrick revenge game! PICK: Steelers -14
