Eagles vs. Cowboys inactives: Ronald Darby and Jalen Mills are ACTIVE

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced the inactives list for their 2019 NFL Week 7 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The following seven Eagles players have been ruled INACTIVE: DeSean Jackson, Jason Peters, Nigel Bradham, Avonte Maddox, Timmy Jernigan, Darren Sproles, and Nate Herbig.

No surprises here. Jackson, Peters, Bradham, Maddox, Jernigan, and Sproles were all ruled out on Friday’s final injury report. Herbig is a healthy scratch once again.

Here’s what we previously wrote about the impact of the Eagles’ injuries:

There was previously “big hope” that Jackson could play this week but that was clearly for naught as Jackson wasn’t even able to practice at all. Jackson hasn’t suited up since Week 2 and the Eagles have missed his big play ability. Jackson’s absence means the Eagles are once again down to Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside at wide receiver.

Peters being out means 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard will make his first NFL start at left tackle. The rookie has a big task in front of him as he faces Robert Quinn, who has five sacks in four games this season.

With Bradham out, the following Eagles linebackers will be active: Nathan Gerry, Kamu Grugier-Hill, T.J. Edwards, Alex Singleton, and Duke Riley. Gerry and Grugier-Hill figure to be the two primary starters with the former making the calls at middle linebacker. Edwards, an undrafted rookie free agent, could also get thrown into the mix. Big task for the linebackers as they try to limit to contain Ezekiel Elliott.

Maddox still hasn’t successfully passed through the mandatory concussion protocol. Former Cowboys defender Orlando Scandrick figures to be the Eagles’ nickel cornerback. Hopefully he doesn’t prove to be a sleeper agent.

Jernigan will miss his fourth straight game but could be back within a week or two. In the meantime, the Eagles are down to Fletcher Cox, Hassan Ridgeway, and Akeem Spence at defensive tackle.

Sproles was seen doing some conditioning work on Friday, which seems like a positive sign. Until he returns, though, the Eagles will have just three running backs active: Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott. Scott will return punts.

Ronald Darby is ACTIVE despite being ruled questionable to play. One would figure he might start at cornerback across from Jalen Mills, who is also active and playing for the first time since October 2018. It’s quite possible Darby and/or Mills split rotational playing time with Rasul Douglas and/or Sidney Jones mixing in. We’ll have to see how it goes. UPDATE: Dave Spadaro tells SportsRadio 94WIP that Darby won’t play much. Available in an emergency situation.

Former CFL star Alex Singleton is active for the first time in his career after being promoted from the practice squad earlier this week. He’ll likely see playing time on special teams.

Shareef Miller is active for the first time in his career since the Eagles have six injured players taking up seven of their inactive spots. The 2019 fourth-round pick might see a few special teams snaps, if any at all.
