Doug Pederson was right. The Philadelphia Eagles are going to go down to Dallas and beat the Cowboys.
It sure won’t be easy for an Eagles team that has plenty of worrisome weaknesses. Amari Cooper should shred this struggling secondary. Ezekiel Elliott could have success on the ground with Nigel Bradham out and Zach Brown gone. No one would be surprised to see the Dallas defense stifle a perpetually slow-starting Eagles offense.
And yet, it just feels like the Eagles are due. I mean, they’re not really about to drop to 0-4 in their last four games against the Cowboys, right?
This notion that the Cowboys have totally owned them just isn’t true. I’d argue that Dallas has just been much luckier than some will admit. Look back at these highlights from the last time these two teams met in Dallas.
The Cowboys get a HUGE break with that garbage “no clear recovery” ruling on the first play of the game, which likely takes at least three Eagles points off the board. Jake Elliott has one of his only two extra point misses in 2018. Dallas Goedert has a 75-yard touchdown wiped out by a non-existent offensive pass interference penalty. The Cowboys win the coin toss in overtime. Rasul Douglas deflects Dak Prescott’s 3rd-and-8 attempt that would’ve brought up a field goal and an Eagles offensive possession ... except the ball bounces right into Cooper’s hands instead for the game winning touchdown. Just incredible bad luck.
I don’t think last year’s frustrating loss has been forgotten by this year’s team. I think the Eagles have been itching for the opportunity to play this team again. The fact that it’s such a high stakes game makes the chance for revenge even sweeter.
Ultimately, I think Pederson and Carson Wentz find a way to make up for the Eagles’ flaws and leave Dallas with a win. I certainly feel a lot better betting on them than I do Jason Garrett, who’s on the hot seat after three straight losses, and Dak Prescott, who has a mere 83.2 passer rating in six career games against the Eagles.
Eagles win and move to first in the NFC East.
