A common post the SB Nation NFL team sites have done throughout this years asks the question: “Which [opposing team’s] player would [your favorite team’s] fans take?” With the Philadelphia Eagles set to play the Chicago Bears on Sunday, it’s time to address the question and familiarize yourself with the opponent’s roster.
OFFENSE
There’s not a ton to be super excited about on this side of the ball.
Eagles fans are certainly not taking Mitchell Trubisky over reigning Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles.
Tarik Cohen would be a nice add. It would’ve been awesome if the Eagles traded up to get him instead of Donnel Pumphrey in the 2017 NFL Draft. Cohen is averaging 4.5 yards per carry on 99 attempts this year and he ranks second on the Bears in receiving yards with 725. The Eagles have been able to use Darren Sproles to torment teams at times. The Eagles could get a taste of their own medicine with the Bears using Cohen in a Sproles role.
Penn State alumnus Allen Robinson is bound to get some love here. His 13.7 yards per reception would be good for first on the Eagles and his 11 big plays would rank second.
Having both Long brothers on the Eagles would be fun. The Eagles could plug Kyle Long in ahead of Stefen Wisniewski.
It’s easy to miss having Trey Burton in Philly but the Eagles are obviously set at tight end with Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.
DEFENSE
Khalil Mack is the Bears’ best player. The 2016 Defensive Player of the Year is certainly capable of wrecking games. Mack has 18 quarterback hits, 12.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, four pass deflections, one interception, and one defensive touchdown this in 14 games this season. Adding him to an already stacked Eagles pass rush is tempting. Good luck to the teams having to deal with Mack, Michael Bennett, Brandon Graham, and Fletcher Cox all out on the field at the same time.
Akiem Hicks is also a really good defensive lineman. Chicago’s starting 3-4 defensive end finished the 2018 regular season with 16 quarterback hits, 12 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, five pass deflections, and three forced fumbles. The Eagles could stick Hicks next to Fletcher Cox and have a starting defensive line of Graham, Hicks, Cox, and Bennett. Hicks would give the Eagles a lot more than they can count on to get from the likes of Haloti Ngata and Treyvon Hester.
Eddie Jackson is one the league’s best safeties. Jackson has six interceptions this season. He’d be a significant upgrade over Corey Graham.
Kyle Fuller has always been appreciated in this space. The 2015 first-round pick has seven interceptions this season. The Eagles are getting good production out of Rasul Douglas, Avonte Maddox, and Cre’Von LeBlanc lately, though.
Danny Trevathan and Roquan Smith are good linebackers but that’s not exactly the biggest position of concern for the Eagles right now.
MY PICK
It has to be Mack. Take him away and suddenly the Bears’ outside linebacker outlook isn’t so great. The Eagles wouldn’t have to worry about him wrecking their game. Instead, he could help the Eagles wreck the Bears’ game.
I wouldn’t mind settling for Hicks.
YOU DECIDE
If you were deciding for the Eagles, who would you take?
