The Philadelphia Eagles released their first official injury report on Wednesday in advance of their Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
To no surprise, Carson Wentz was a full participant in practice for the first time this season. He’ll resume his role as the team’s starting quarterback on Sunday. That’s the good news.
Elsewhere, the Eagles are dealing with a number of injury issues.
Running backs Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles did not practice. Doug Pederson described both of them as “day-to-day” but noted that Sproles will take “a little bit longer” to return than Ajayi will. If neither player can suit up this week, the Eagles will be down to just Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, and the recently promoted Josh Adams against the Colts.
Alshon Jeffery was a limited participant in practice yet again. Pederson did indicate that he could be getting back to some 11-on-11 work this week, which would be a step up from only doing individual drills last week. It still doesn’t look like he’ll be returning this Sunday, though, which means the Eagles will be down to just Nelson Agholor, Kamar Aiken, Jordan Matthews, and Shelton Gibson at wide receiver.
Starting left tackle Jason Peters was limited in practice. Peters suffered a quad injury during practice last week and had it flare up early in the Eagles-Buccaneers game. Pederson said he expects Peters to play this week.
Two Eagles linebackers did not practice on Wednesday; D.J. Alexander and Nathan Gerry both sat out. Missing them wouldn’t hurt Philadelphia’s defense as much it could impact Dave Fipp’s special teams unit. Hopefully at least one of them will be able to play this week.
In other injury news, the Eagles placed Mike Wallace on injured reserve earlier on Wednesday in order to free up a roster spot for Matthews. There’s optimism Wallace can return later in the season.
