Eagles reportedly cut standout player from spring practices

Tough day for the Big Baus.

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Cleveland Browns Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are waiving cornerback De’Vante Bausby, according to a report from NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro.

This is a noteworthy cut by the Eagles. Bausby really impressed during spring practices earlier this year. Then the 25-year-old spent a good chunk of training camp splitting first team nickel corner snaps with Sidney Jones.

Unfortunately for the Big Baus, he didn’t look as good this summer as he did during OTAs and minicamp. The 25-year-old fell out of the starting slot role when he was supplanted in the competition by 2018 fourth-round rookie Avonte Maddox.

Bausby originally joined the Eagles when Philadelphia signed him to their practice squad last September. He spent the entire year with the team so he did receive a Super Bowl ring for his efforts.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some other team that’s weak at corner gives Bausby a look. He just missed out on making the 53-man, in my view. I had him as the 54th guy in my projection.

It’s worth noting Bausby is still practice squad eligible.
