The Philadelphia Eagles signed free agent safety Deshawntee Gallon on Monday morning, according to an official announcement from the team. The roster is now back to being filled at the 90-man offseason limit heading into Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets.
Gallon’s nickname is “Ironhead.”
Ironhead Gallon.
That’s fantastic. #Analysis.
The 24-year-old Gallon measures in at 5-10, 203 pounds. He played college football at Georgia Southern before going unselected in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Gallon signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted rookie free agent in May 2017. He remained with the team until getting waived during final cuts in September of last year.
The Eagles are likely signing Gallon just to give themselves an extra body for Thursday’s preseason game. They needed an extra guy at safety after cutting Stephen Roberts over the weekend. Philadelphia’s starters and key reserves won’t be playing against the Jets so the Eagles will be trotting out a lot of roster filler guys.
If we’re being real, though, the Eagles should sign Gallon to a life-time contract immediately because how could you not want a guy named Ironhead on your team?
