Eagles sign linebacker

BIG news! (Not.)

NCAA Football: Florida State at Wake Forest Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles signed undrafted rookie free agent linebacker Jaboree Williams (great name) on Sunday morning, according to an official announcement from the team.

The Eagles had an open roster spot after waiving undrafted rookie safety Stephen Roberts on Saturday afternoon.

Williams participated in the Eagles’ rookie minicamp as a tryout player following the 2018 NFL Draft, so the team has some level of familiarity with him.

In four years at Wake Forest, Williams logged 141 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, four passes defensed, three sacks, and two interceptions. The 6-0, 235 pound player served as a team captain for the Deacons.

Williams gives the Eagles another body at linebacker heading into the team’s preseason finale against the New York Jets. He was likely signed to help fill some snaps while the Eagles rest players on Thursday night. Especially given this news:

Keep in mind the Eagles will need to cut their roster (which currently stands at 89 players) down to the regular season 53-man limit by 4:00 PM on next Saturday, September 1.
